openSUSE 11.0 won't update

After installing the new opensuse 11.0 (via dvd out of book by whittaker & davies -- tested dvd and came out ok) have been trying for weeks to update it but nothing works; can't download or even connect, and my net connection does work -- but only as "Traditional method" connection as NetworkManager also no good (Error: Download failed. Download [curl] error for ' http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...o/oss/repodata /repomd.xml' Error code: connection failed. Error message: Failed to connect to 195.135.221.130 Network unreachable.) Have been told that connection # is not even an update source, but a download source, but that's what I get when try to use NetworkManager.
When try for ONLINE UPDATE CONFIGURATION get message: An error occurred while connecting to server. Details: "Query products failed".
When try for AUTOMATIC ONLINE UPDATE get yellow triangle on panel saying "Error: Refresh failed".
When try for ONLINE UPDATE itself (all through YAST) get message: "Error: Download failed. File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.0/repo/oss/' failure stage: installing packages.

Any suggestions welcome as no one anywhere seems to have much to say on it, and am looking at try for total new install with prospect this new one will have same "no update function" as present one; or else re-install older 10.3; or even switch distros -- which really like to avoid but getting REALLY tired of all the hang-ups keep encountering, but likely also that may face similar problems with them, and just getting comfortable with openSUSE.
Am presently unable to make effective use of my best computer, and any leads on this immensely appreciated.

I have had the same kind of experience as yours, and it went on for weeks.
Could not find related info on the error as given by the updater itself.
It also turned out that several menus in the Yast GUI were broken.

For reasons totally unrelated I had to reinstall SUSE, and chose KDE 3.5 instead of KDE 4, and the problem is no longer there.

I am sorry, but I can no longer reproduce my exact error message: it had something to do with an incorrect reference to a zypper library.

When I googled with (parts of) the error message, I got very, very few hits. One of them was to set a link from a file in /lib to the same in /lib64. This did not help either.
