OpenSUSE 10.3 - I lost my network
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...e-10.3-625451/
I followed this one to the letter and things seemed to be set right and should be working. In fact I got two drivers for this, sk98lin - active skge - not-active It's a EliteGroup Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller on eth0. I also got a Ethernet Controller VIA VT6102 Rhine II Embedded Ethernet Controller with a driver called via-rhine and is also active. This is eth1. I made the install with them active and it worked with no problem at all until to today. I had a bit of problem with Compiz giving me withouts on the screen and used Xfwm to get a graphical interface to turn it off. That done I got it working properly but now I can't access the net instead. It's a dualboot with windows and I can get on the net with the machine with the windows partition. When I start up YAST and click on 'network card' it tells me there is another process working at it, I've turned off updates, so I press continue to get into YAST. Once inside that window for Network cards I see both controllers in the overview tab. VIA is set not to work as it isn't in windows, Gigabit is set to DHCP, just like in windows. I have enabled(was like that and I haven't changed that) IPv6 under global options, no default gateway as this is cable connected. Gigabit is set to be activated on boot, no firewall to remove that possibility with sk98lin set for Kernel Module->Module Name in the Hardware tab when you configure this piece. Whenever I have made any change here I have rebooted to get running. Or at least I figured it'd kick in when I did that. So what am I missing? Any general solution? |
Ok, I've made it worked. For some reason it started to work after an update with
the install DVD where I made it make an online update. It stopped working again after that but this time it worked with running it over with yast2 and saving it. For no apparent reason that I can find as I changed nothing from what I've tried before. If nothing else works this might but no garantees. |
10.3 network etc problems
Yes their is a problem with suse 10.3 regarding Yast2 and for earlier copies you need to have the internet available while you install suse to get the patch but also need the patience to wait for Yast to operate after you have taken the dvd out, not obvious but once installed it is one of the easiest Linux versions to use that I have come across. enjoy!
