Lightbulb openssl - libcrypto.so

Hello,

I'm in a serious problem. I was upgrading openssl 0.7 to 0.9.81 in my redhat 9 server. I've followed the guideline from here:

http://marc.info/?l=openssl-users&m=103243136521648&w=2

Now everything is messed up There's no libcrypto.so in /usr/local/ssl/lib directory. Only libcrypto.a. Neither in /usr/lib or /lib directory. I can't even run scp or wget to download rpm of openssl. Getting libcrypto.so error. I've use locate command to find libcrypto.so. There's none. I've run ./config, make, make test and make install command again in the openssl 0.9.81 source directory. But no luck. No libcrypto.so. This is a production server and the httpd went down. Nothing working. Please help me.

If compiling went alright (didn't you miss any error that could've stopped the compiling ?), then libcrypto.so must be somewhere.

What is the output for :
Code:
$ find /path/to/openssl-0.9.81 -name libcrypto*

Hi,

You should have used:
Code:
./config shared
Before running the above command run
Code:
make distclean
to clean the sources directory

Regards

Thanks buddies. I've got this working. Did a "make clean" and "./config shared". found libcrypto.so in /usr/local/ssl/lib directory. I've just make 5 symlink(libcrypto.so, libcrypto.so.1, .......,..so.4) in the /usr/lib directory with the libcrypto.so in /usr/local/ssl/lib directory.

Thanks again!

You could have added /usr/local/ssl/lib before /usr/lib in /etc/resolv.conf and run ldconfig afterwards. This way you don't have to create any symlinks in /usr/lib.
Anyway since you got your solution, please mark the thread as "Solved" from the "Thread Tools" on top of this page.

Cheers

Hi I am trying to build binaries for openssl-0.9.8. make is successful but libssl.a and libcrypto.a are generated but I require a .so files.
How to get that.
