Opening Office 2007 documents
 

Hello to all,

recently i install latest openoffice.org 2.4 in my linux PC. it can't open MS office 2007 documents (i.e. docx) of my another NTFS partition.

how can i open MS office 2007 documents with openoffice.org?
any ideas or tips??

I thought open office can open MS Word files by default without any settings.
Is your problem because you are using NTFS partitions and are not able to access the partition?
You can try mounting the partition using ntfs-3g. If that is not installed by default you may want to install it and then give it a try.

ATM i don't think Openoffice can open MS Office 2007 files. The reason is that MS Office has changed its document format. The best bet is to use MS office 2007 to convert those files into the older version which are compatible with OpenOffice

OpenOffice cannot currently handle (Microsoft) Office Open XML files (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Open_XML) which is what Microsoft Office 20007 produces by default. (Well sort of. The specification that Microsoft submitted to ISO for certification isn't the same as that used by Office 2007. That's Microsoft for you...) OpenOffice 3 will be able to handle such files.
Novell do offer filters that give OpenOffice 2.4 the ability to read/write (Microsoft) Office Open XML files however the Linux version says it only works with openSUSE or SLED and then only with the Novell edition of OpenOffice. http://download.novell.com/Download?...d=d3PAMYmvjOg~
Your best bet is to re-save your files in to Microsoft Office 2003 or XP formats and save all future files in these formats.

In my workplace, if I use Office 2007 I must "save as" office 97-2003 in order for others to open the documents, where they do not have MS Office2007.

So it is not just openoffice.org problem. You have to "Save As" older file type ...
