Which log are you talking about?
Log files are usually located in the /var/log directory.

Using the more or less commands should allow you to read the files, I think (don't read too many things from the command line).

Is this some ancient computer that nothing newer than Mandrake 6.1 will run on or something??

Do yourself a favor and download something more recent (assuming you have broadband, if not try to pick up a disk cheap from cheapbytes). mandrake 6.1 is ancient, obsolete, and will probably have quite a few problems with modern hardware as well as being open to all sorts of security issues (sort of like running an unpoatched Windows 98).
