Unhappy opening emacs


hi im new to this linux systems..
i always thought when u open a terminal and u wana code using perl

ull av to use:



emacs eg1.pl --- for perl

or another command line

emacs eg2.java --- to open java



but when i installed the linux suse 10.2 just now and wrote them commands it kept on sayin command not found..
i was wondering why or have i done something wrong.. can someone please help..

Do you have emacs installed? Open a terminal and type "which emacs" (minus the quotes) and post the response.

Hi,

And welcome to LQ!

I don't know SuSE's default package selection, but chances are
EMACS isn't in it ... use YaSTs software installer and check
for emacs, and if it exists, install it ;}

the isn't no error message it just goes to the next command line without saying anything
