I recently took the plunge and updated an old Win98 Pentium 1 system to Mandrake 8.2.

I try to start Uplink (a game which worked perfectly under Windows) and it does nothing at all. I have looked in the debug text file as the Introversion website suggests and it contains the following error message:

GLUT: Fatal error in uplink: OpenGL GLX extensions not supported by display: :0.0

I read a thread about the problem but did not understand the answer (I am a complete newbie and this is my first Linux experiment).

I am running a P233 MMX, 64mb RAM, a Matrox Millennium II 2D card and a 3Dfx VooDoo 1 3D card. (yeah I know its old)

Any help would be appreciated but please make it as basic as possible (hey, we all gotta start somewhere).

You need Glide. It should be on your installation cds, so just run
urpmi glide
Then you need to configure it. Maybe the howto http://www.gamers.org/dEngine/xf3D/h...Dfx-HOWTO.html will help you (it's VERY old, but may help).

I tried installing glide but to no avail. The instructions on the gamers.org site don't seem to correspond to anything that I get when I install glide, so I suspect I'm running a newer version.

I think I should probably just give up, but any help would be appreciated.
