Open source backup solution

Is there an easy to follow tutorial on a red hat enterprise linux backup solution? I tried to follow Amanda and was having too many problems with it! I need documentation that really does state everything exactly and step by step from the beginning. Thanks.

What sort of backup solution are you looking for? What do you want it to back up, how automatic do you want it to be, and what do you want it to be able to back up to?

There are a lot of solutions, but what you will want will probably depend on what you wan to do with it.

Ideally I'd be able to back it up from anywhere onto hard disk. The most important things are that it is free and easy to use. I cannot stress this enough. I've tried amanda, rsnapshot, and a few others to no avail. I'm backing up a red hat enterprise linux 4 server.

Any of those you tried should work. With Amanda, I think you said you tried the 15 minute install guide. I find that kind of gimmicky and prefer the Quick Start Guide at http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Quick_start. That's what I used to get started a couple of years ago. Following through that and then jumping out to other sections of the wiki for details when necessary worked just fine.
