open shared folder of windows using fedora
can anyone tell me how i can open a shared folder on others computer through lan using his ip address...
actually when both the users are using windows its not a big deal ..one guy shared his folder just by right clicking on it and enabling the sharing option...and the other guy type this in his run to open that folder through lan..\\ip address [enter]...
i am using fedora 8 and my frnd is using windows xp...he has shared a folder ..now how can i open hi folder and access it using my fedora..

You need to have samba-client on your pc, then in the address or location bar type: smb://<hostname or ip>.

ya samba client is there on my pc....but i dont know how to user it...Iam using fedora 8 ...
1 i have created a folder on my desktop ....
2 i want to share it so that i if i go in my frnds room .. who is using windows xp ...i cd open it from his pc by typing this in his run ....\\my ip address...
can u tell me wat all i need to do....
also he has shared one folder on his desktop ....i want to open it in the same way from my pc....

From your pc if you are using KDE open konqueror and type: smb://<hostname or ip> in the address/location bar. If you are using Gnome, open Nautilus then type the same as above.

thanks a lot ...i am able to open shared folder of my frnd who is using windows...
now i want to share a folder in my fedora so that my frnd who is using windows is able to open is by typing this in his run...\\my ip address..

hi
iam able to use konquerer as told by you to open my frnds shared folder and iam able to see the contents also but iam not able to copy anything from his shared folder...
please do anyone knows why is this happenning?

Check the permissions on his shared folder.

i have checked the permissions...even if there is writte permission given in the folder ...iam not able to copy anything on my system using konquerer...
iam jst able to see and open everything...
