Only one program can use sound device - how do I fix this

Hi,

I have a realtek sound card and it works fine.

But if I play music then play a game or something I get an error saying that device is in use; how can I change it so multiple programs can use a single device?

Hello Virtuality,

You will have to configure your system to use dmix. It's an ALSA plugin.

Here are some starting points:
http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=DmixPlugin
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ALSA_so..._aka_dmix#dmix
