One of my desktops randomly switched to Gnome
Someone else was using my computer for a few moments, and he claims he "just closed Firefox", but the result was that it seems one of my desktops is using Gnome, while the other three are still set the way I want them in KDE. Is there a setting somewhere that can define certain desktops to use different environments?
Additional information: I'm using SuSE 9.2 on an AMD64, and while the taskbar and even the window stylings appear to be KDE, the desktop background and icons are Gnome. Unfortunately, I don't really know what caused the problem, since it wasn't me using it at the time. Also (weird), it was initially desktop 3 that had this problem, but after a restart of the session it moved to desktop 1. Nothing else seems to be effected. Frickin' bizarre... |
I know this seems stupid, but are you sure he didn't just change the desktop wallpaper?
I don't know how a single desktop could change to Gnome, it seems he might have just moved some icons from somewhere and changed the wallpaper. |
Pop open a terminal and run killall nautilus. Somehow he's probably managed to run nautilus from a menu maybe or something but it'll attempt to redraw your desktop with it's own settings etc. When it does this while you're running another WM/DE it has some pretty interesting-looking results. If you want to use nautilus as your file manager from KDE (although if you have KDE installed dunno why you'd want to) just run it with the --no-desktop flag, maybe if it's in your menu somewhere you might want to make the change anyway to avoid future mishaps :)
