One more dual boot question...

Finally have disk problems fixed. What I have now is:
Windows XP on 1st 10GB partition of a 20GB drive
Red Hat 7 on 2nd 10GB partition of same 20GB drive.

Now, if I boot from the hard drive, XP comes up. If I boot from the Linux Boot floppy, Red Hat comes up.

I'm missing something. Lilo is not where it's supposed to be, I guess. So how do I put it (or something else that will work) there?

if you have a lilo.conf file setup already, make sure it has the primary harddrive as the install location for lilo in the top section of the file

boot=/dev/hda

then run lilo

Where did you install LILO? In the master boot record (MBR) or on the Linux Partition....sounds like it's on the Linux Partition to me. In that case you'll have to change the Windows boot loader to include Linux as an option...check out the instructions here http://www.pcquest.com/content/networking/100080119.asp for some clues....I know its for Win2K, but XP should be similar. Alternatively install a 3rd Party boot manager such as Boot Magic to control the boot process. Boot Magic isn't free, but here's some shareware options...not tried any of them, so on your head be it!!;)

In most cases any advice for XP should work EXACTLY the same for a win2K problem, and vice versa. They are built just the same, XP just has all the pretty graphics that suck up resources, I'm sure microsoft said there was more to it but... Well, I've used both extensively, and only thing different is the patches you need to install.

use lilo on the mbr

Thanks for the help. It will be next week before I can work on this (Family comes first) I'll post an update when I get a chance to sit down with it.

Thanks again
