One Mandrake 9.1 issue, one general Linux/Windows question...

First, the problem...

I've recently successfully installed Mandrake 9.1 on my system and almost everything worked fine. After a few teething problems with my modem, I got it to work and dial in. I then shut down my system and later booted it up again into Mandrake, but then it wouldn't see my modem or save my previous configuration. Why is this? If it helps, my modem is a US Robotics 56k external faxmodem on com1.

And the question...

Is there perhaps a program somewhere that will allow me to see my Linux partition under windows? Like a file manager of some sort?

Thanks in advance!

Explore2fs can do this. Search Google/linux for it and others.
