on url "http://localhost/" error ""The requested URL could not be retrieved "


hello sir,
i m getting "The requested URL could not be retrieved " error when i type
"http://localhost/". but i think my apache is working properly since when i use following command on terminel " wget -d http://cnatpt.cedt.net/index.html" then
there is no error .........
so other error can be possible.......
plz help me.......

my os is ubuntu.......

What do you mean to say? wget will just download the file and if the file exists on the server then it will download it. It does not suggest me that your apache is configured correctly or not.
You should also look if your apache server is running. If not then start the service by /etc/init.d/apache2 start
