on old computer, got 'failed to spawn mountall process'
Hello,
I have tried several hard drives and cables on a new install of 9.10, using CD-ROM. I get 1/3 the way through the install, even the HD gets partitioned, but then receive the above error.
My question is: after swapping out 3 HDs, should I swap CD drives, or could it be a motherboard problem on this 5-year old computer (which used to run winxp)?
The CD drive seems to be working awfully hard during the install, and am suspicious of it as the culprit.
Hopefully my error message will let someone pin point the problem more, as I am running out of patience trying to save this computer.
\if you use a ubuntu live cd, can you mount the harddisk?
Thanks for responding, both of you.
Computer has 2G of RAM, Intel processor
Am using a different CD drive now.
Filesystem is mounted now, but installation is very slow from live CD, and is hanging presently..........Just got 'ubi-language failed with exit code' error after trying to access release notes from internet.
Now I will try install again from live CD desktop.
'80 GB Filesystem' shows on desktop, so that's good.
Yay - install is progressing from Step 1....oops -- hanging now after setting clock...Cannot activate menus with mouse anymore.
That's all she wrote for this try! Tell me my motherboard is bad and I will give up on this machine, but not on Linux.
Dave
I have had a successful installation, but only by going back to the Ubuntu 8 disk that I had.
Thanks, till next time, Dave Henry
