On ASUS M2N8-VMX Mandriva 2007 installs but CDROM vanishes after boot
I have an AM2 3600+ processor with ASUS M2N8-VMX board with the bios version 1004. Mandriva 2008 powerpack fails to install, what I get is a blank screen and nothing else. Mandriva 2007 powerpack installs with ACPI disabled. But once I boot into the system CDROM / DVD drives do not work. ADD/Remove software reports that media not found even if DVD is placed in the drive.None of the CD/DVDs are read and same is the case with audio CDs. What needs to be done.Sound works with the vendor provided driver CD.
Thanx to jay73 for the solution. But I disabled HPET table from bios (1004) menu under south bridge settings, was able to install Mandriva 2008 Powerpack with ACPI disabled and later enabled it from boot configuration menu. Sound and display works just fine in KDE (6 Channel sound)as weel as Gnome (Only stereo).
