Question Older system, Trouble With X

I'm completely new to Linux and am having trouble getting X started. When I run XConfigurator, it always says that there is a problem with my configuration. I have a Cirrus Logic 5434 PCI video card and a CTX 1451C monitor. I've got the correct specs for them, but it doesn't do me any good when I specify the sync rates. Any ideas? Thanks!

and your sure you have these specs specified for you monitor and from what i seen, your video card is set to be able to handle 1024x768 and it has 2 megs of video ram, correct? so are these settings also correct?
