Older laptop - Thinking of AntiX. Anything else required?
Okay, sorry if this should be in the Distributor tread, but as a complete noob I thought here would be okay.
Ref. AntixMepis 7 (On CD from EBay trader) After quite a bit of research I think this is the product I want for my older laptop. 1) Could anyone confirm for me that this should install stand-alone from boot up or will I have to install from within win98/DOS. 2) Also is this the only thing I will need for an OS, or do I need other modules (kernels or something?)? 3) Firefox (Iceweasel etc) is all I require to run for now - Will firefox work the same as it does on my XP machine (i.e. security for internet banking etc) 4) WIFI - I have a PCMCIA WIFI card (Netgear 54Mbps WG511 v2). This should not be an issue with drivers etc? Many thanks Nathanial. |
1)Linux installs alone, no need for windows.
2)AntiX is a complete OS based on Mepis. 3)Firefox is the same. 4)Wifi cards are sometimes a problem with Linux. Why don't you go over to the Mepis forums and search for Netgear wg511 and see. You can also post a question in the antiX section and someone should be able to answer your question. |
Thanks very much!:D
