o.k. how can one change the root password?
Having a blast with Linux as a newbie. But I have one mystery in progress.
I have Ubuntu 8.10 on a second partition and now in Windows I have a virtual install of AndLinux. (the AndLinux uses Ubunto 7.10) In both installs, I was never asked to set the root password. I just setup my main ueer id. I've had no problem using "sudo" to do root operations, but if I try and use "su", I get no where as I don't know the root password. Anyone have an answer? (I certainly hope it's not a "start at the beginning and install your Linux again, as I have a ton of goodies working already). Thank you for the help guys! Search only had ideas on MySql and other lost passwords. |
IIRC you can just use sudo su and then the passwd command. I haven't used Ubuntu for a while now though...

Sweet!
YES!!! I've been able to set the Root password now on Ubuntu.
AndLinux is a bit strange as it doesn't carry out the command, but then I've found the NT console is going all the way down to the # rompt, so maybe that's another avenue for me to check out. Long story short....THANK YOU...to those who left great ideas to follow. Hoping you're headed for a great holiday. |
