nvidia driver won't update in Yast after SuSE 9.3 Pro. install

After installing SuSE 9.3 Pro., I went to Yast and You for the updates, installed the nvidia driver, then went back and upadated the driver. Shut down the system, restarted and waited for the nvidia splash...not there.
When I try going to Yast to check the monitor, I get a blank screen and lock-up. Help!

Have you tried first editing /etc/inittab to runlevel 3 so you can at least work at fixing the problem?

You'll need at least some kind of rescue disk to do this... start your system with the rescue disk and then in textmode, edit your /etc/inittab (at least that is how you do it on Redhat / Fedora). Find the line that says

id:5:initdefault:

and make it to read

id:3:initdefault:

Remove your rescue bootdisk / CD and reboot. You should now at least have access to your system so you can work at the problem.

Hope this helps a bit at starting to fix it? What you'll probable need is to get the source for the (possible) new kernel you now have after the upgrade...

Post again if you need more help. I had much the same problem recently when I upgraded my Fedora 3 kernel - I had to go and download the full kernel source and install it in a certain location (/usr/src/linux) to get my Nvidia driver to compile for the new kernel.
