nvidia driver and Fedora Core 2

I just installed the lastest nvidia driver and now i have 2 xorg.conf files and open gl still wont load. One file is xorg.conf and the other is xorg.conf~. I can remove the one with the ~ but it just comes back. It seems to be read only also, unlike the xorg.conf. I went in and changed the "nv" to "nvidia" like you are supposed to in xorg.conf. But the xorg.conf~ wont let me do anything to it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

login as the root user. The root user has access to any file.

You can also type

su

in a terminal to become the SuperUser for a period of time. Put the root password in after typing this command. This you will be able to edit the file

i am logged in as root.
the xorg.conf file can be edited.
the xorg.conf~ file cannot.
i imagine there is a conflict somewhere. if i try to remove the xorg.conf~ file, it just comes back.
thank you for your reply.
