NVIDIA and Mandrake problems


Please help, I just installed Mandrake 10 but the problem was also present in Mandrake 9.2
Everytime I reboot the machine, I have to reinstalll the NVIDIA drivers otherwise startx fails to load.

What am I missing? Please help

Hi i think i've read something about that. You install the driver but modify the wrong file and at boot you set up start on a unmodify file. I can't find the information now but it's well documented. Google mandrake nVidia.

add nvidia to your /etc/modules.preload file

you just need to have the module loaded at startup, not restart it.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 266 Mar 18 07:48 modules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 196 Mar 18 07:48 modules.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3672 Feb 27 05:57 modules.devfs

these are the files I found, I am assuming that you are refering to modules.conf...

probeall scsi_hostadapter imm ppa usb-storage
probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd
above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss
options bttv radio=0 gbuffers=4
alias eth0 sk98lin
alias sound-slot-0 emu10k1


this is what I got in mine.....please help

my appologies... add it to the modules file in /etc

I added

alias char-major-195 nvidia

to /etc/modules

and problem fixed
