NTFS Hard Drive Recovery in Linux

I have a 1TB external hard drive and it sometimes hangs when reading it in windows, in linux it shows as 0bytes but in windows 894GB out of 995GB.when I ran disk check on it in windows it said that
Quote:
"File record segment *some number* is unreachable
.Is there a program in linux to recover or fix the bad segments in the NTFS hard drive?

Thank you

I suggest checking the disk with smartctl (the package is probably called smartmontools) and any diagnostics tools provided by the disk manufacturer. This could indicate a failing drive.

I'd run chkdsk /F on it again. There is not and easy way to fix it. First to use would be the drive's OEM tools and applications. WD and Seagate offer diag tools to help decide how good this drive is. In some cases the drive may be OK and the enclosure is bad so watch for that.

In the end you might use testdisk/photorec to recover files.
