Nothing from Optical mouse...
....during boot/post... maybe the moment it hits the linux kernel. idk, but theres not even any light coming from my USB mouse bar the occassional brief flash early on when i power up my PC. (same deal with my wacom graphics tablet)
i'm sure i had this problem before and fixed it, but its been days of trying to solve this, navigating with the keyboard, and so i had to ask.... HELP! (please and thnx) this is on SuSE 9.2 pro (if that helps) and most equip in the machine is around 4-5 years old. i havn't tried the obvious yet, because i dont know what it is, so feel free to chip in with anything you think i might have already tried. (ps, i hate being a noob) :D |
Re: Nothing from Optical mouse...
So do you have USB support built into your kernel?
|
that isnt standard?
how do i check if i do? |

firstly, during your boot up, what should occur if you have just newly attached this new USB mouse is a system hardware recognition message (from kuzuu or something) that asks for a new hardware check and to press a key within 5 seconds. Have you ever gotten such a message ever? What kernel version do you use (type uname -r in console). If you would like to check if you have usb support, you can do this two ways: either switch to root using su in the console and then type in "modprobe usb-interface" or "modprobe usb-uhci" or check the /etc/modules.conf file.

Linux 2.6.8-24
i did get this same old mouse working on suse9.1 i don't remember ever getting a message like that (and i usually press f2 to see whats happening while booting). upon "modprobe usb-interface" i get "module usb_interface not found" upon "modprobe usb-uhci" i get "mwuhaha usb_nogonnawerkfersiljraththatwayeither" :D ps, AAArgh i hate keyboard navigation. :D still... its good training. ;) edit= just rebooted, saw a few things involving usb fly past the screen, one thing i did catch though was: usb 1-1 control timeouts ep0in (or something close to that anyways) that any help? |
modprobe ohci-hcd
modprobe ehci-hcd modprobe uhci-hcd for 2.6 kernels since i don't know your usb controller you'll have to try them all |
ohci. i saw "OHCI" when i rebooted to see if those three had any effect. none of them told me they didnt, so i asumed something happened upon all three. what exactly was that though? my mouse still doesn't like linux though. nxt step?

Please help. If I don't get this fixed in the next week (before the 20th) and have my PC in fully functioning order, i'm f*cked. i.e. without this, i will be homeless!!!
would it mess things up if i had entered the other two modprobe comands (uhci and ehci)? if so, how do i undo their effect? and since modprobe ohci didn't get the problem sorted, is there something else i should have tried? please, take pity on me, and help me fully so this can be fixed and all my sacrafices over the past 6 months have not been in vain (and oh how there have been many sacrafices). |
/etc/modules.conf is empty!
can that be? heh, not that anyone gives a crap about this. |
