Not seeing your hidden files in Kubuntu Edgy (solution)?

If you cannot see your hidden files in Konquerer with Kubuntu Edgy, here is the official response, and my solution:

OFFICIAL RESPONSE:

How can I see all the folders in the root directory?
The non-user folders in / are hidden by default in 6.10 (Edgy). To show them use View -> Show Hidden Files in Konqueror. To stop them being hidden go to /etc/kubuntu-default-settings/ in Konqueror and Right Click on hidden-root -> Edit As Root and empty the file.
This feature has been removed in Feisty.

But when I went to View, the option for showing hidden files wasn't there. Here's what I did:

On the K-menu, I added the optional entry: Quickbrowser**
Navigate to Quickbrowser > root folder > etc > Kubuntu default settings --and select the option to open in file manager.

Once the files are displayed in Konquerer, right-click the hidden-root file, select 'actions' and then 'edit as root'.

Once the file opens in Kate (you will be asked for your password first), you can remark out the files with the '#' symbol(type this in front of every word you see in the list, e.g., #bin), or delete them as the official instructions indicate.

Save the file, close Konquerer, reopen, and all of the hidden files should now be present under root.

**To add an optional menu entry, right click on the K-menu icon, choose Panel menu > configure panel; In the configuration box, select 'menus' from the left hand sidebar, and check the box for Quickbrowser in the optional menus section. Click apply, then Ok. Menu item will now be added to the main menu.

Hope this helps someone out there!
