Unhappy Not familiar with ways to install drivers in Linux (printer, graphics card, etc)

I am an absolute newbie with Linux. I have loaded up Ubuntu and now would like to try to install a printer driver and graphics card driver. I think I have downloaded the proper graphics card but I have no clue how to run the driver setup in Linux. I'm in Windows exile!
Could someone help me understand the process?

This link should help you out

The printer should be plug and play. No external software download or installation.

Ubuntu has a handy program called syanptic that will install most applications with the click of a button. Linux is quite different than Windows. You don't need to go to a bunch of websites and download a bunch of different programs. Ubuntu's software -called packages- are maintained in a single place -called a repository or repo- synaptic is the handy dandy gui interface to the repo.

Downloading stuff for Ubuntu is 'last resort'.

As said by disturbed1 : Synaptic has it ......

... About 26,000 packages. Graphics : search nvidia or ati,
click what you need, and it will be installed.
It's a Linux. All "5000" drivers ready for plug and play,
were already installed, when you finished the Ubuntu install.
