"Not enough memory" error when booting from cd

Any idea what would cause such an error? Desktop system with 1.5gb ram. I've tried memcheck. Attempted distro - FC6. Exact message:

Uncompressing Linux.

Not enough memory.

System halted.

So the RAM is otherwise fine? Hmmm..
What I would do is kick the 512MB module out and see how it would boot then, just to test.
