not able to start puppet master.

I was able to start puppet server using.

Code:

service puppetmaster start

but since i upgrade the puppet i m not able to start it.

Code:

# puppet --version
2.7.1
# service puppetmaster start
puppetmaster: unrecognized service

Is there different way of starting the server in new puppet version 2.7.1?
I installed the puppet from tar.gz.
I m confused as only puppet-2.7.1.tar.gz is given on site .
Will it contain both server and client functionality?

# puppet master --mkusers
Could not run: Could not create PID file: /var/lib/puppet/run/master.pid

The puppet master webrick service isn't meant for production use. I'd recommend running it via Apache and passenger instead and you'll get better performance and the likes.

How would i start it using apache and passenger?
