Post Not able to run wget or ping from Linux running on virtualbox

Hi,
I am new to Linux. I installed Linux on virtualbox and when I try to give the command wget www.google.com, it gives me a error as below:-

Resolving www.google.com ... failed : Temporary failure in name resolution.

When I try to give ping www.google.com, it gives an error stating
ping : unknown host www.google.com

Can anyone help me in this regards.

Regards,
Sreejith Padmanabhan

There can be two things

1. You have not set your DNS server
2. Networking is not properly configured in your virtual box or Linux machine

As the second post suggested, the OP needs to learn each way a VM might connect and interact with the host. There are actually 3 ways it can connect. We'd need to know how the OP attached the client to the host.

When we find out that we can suggest how to correct any of the ip and dns issues that may be there. Fist the IP routing needs to be correct, all needed ports need to be open, and all resolver or other entries need to be checked.

Knowing what version or disto would also be helpful.
