Not able to install ubuntu 8.04 nor fedora core 6
Hi..
I have a very strange problem. I'm using vista on my laptop and I tried to install ubuntu 8.04. When I was installing it, it used to get hanged during installation. I tried a lot and then shifted to fedora core 6. The installation was completed and it asked for reboot. I rebooted the system and the GRUB doesn't show up. That is, Fedora doesnt boot at all. I reinstalled GRUB, but it made no difference. Now when I log in to vista, I find that my touchpad isnt working. PS: I had installed Fedora Core 6 some 15 months ago and it worked like a charm. But now I get this problem. |
Your install cd/dvd (Ubuntu) maybe defective. Check that.
Do you have some hardware problem? check that too with say system rescue CD Do you have hidden partitions? |
I dont think I have a hardware problem because Linux was working fine a few months ago. And I dont have any hidden partitions. It was just a normal installation.
|
Do you have vista sp1 installed? There was something mentioned a while back that sp1 "unintentionally" prevented dual booting.
|
Did you perhaps change any BIOS setting since then?
|
Fedora Core 6 is 3 versions old, the current version of fedora is 9, by the way
|
I dint have any other version of fedora. So I tried fc6. And I dint change anything in the BIOS. Also, I did not upgrade my vista to SP1. But what can be the problem? I never came across this kind of problem.
