not able to install firefox browser on redhat 8
hai all....
this is my first question to this forum....i have a linux redhat 8 machine on which i installed a CMS(joomla)...but it is having some problems..the suggested remedy was to install a new browser...right now i have mozilla 1.0.1..i downloaded firefox 1.5.0.1 from the mozilla site and uncompressed into a folder....now this folder contains several files including an executable firefox file...but when i try to run it from terminal nothing happens...what else have i to do?isn't the browser version compatible with redhat 8 ..if not, which furhter version from 1.0.1 can i install and how....:newbie: |
You may be out of luck. Red Hat 8 is from around the early days of windows 98. I doubt any version of firefox will work on it without a lot of work. It probably depends on a lot of newer libraries. You could try to track them all down and manually install them before compiling, but I bet it'll be dependency hell.
If you can, you might think of updating to a newer distro. If you need one for an old machine, you might try Debian... |
thanks pljvaldez.....i am beginning to think that is the only remedy...in fact i had installed the same cms on another machine with fedora core 3 and it is working fine...thanks for ur reply....keep up the good work...
