Not able to connect through stfp / vsftpd

I've been making some changes on the system (it looks like it may be related to firewalld), and I am not able to log in through sftp.

Another thing with this is that /var/log/xferlog is not recording any information. The size of the file is always 0 and it is empty inside.

This is what I have in /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf file:

Code:
# You may override where the log file goes if you like. The default is shown below.
#xferblog_file=/var/log/xferlog
So this is commented out, so I guess it should be logging there...

I've been working on this for a while, and I've been stuck for 6+ hours now. I am also reading about the firewalld, but I am not sure if I will be able to figure it out relatively fast. Meaning, I installed it with yum install firewalld, I am not sure how I would check what is open and what is blocked currently and get the overall understanding of this. There is also these zones, nine total, and public looks like the default one. Do I just use public (this is a web server, for running websites, ftp, email, and nothing else) or do I spread everything out to multiple zones? So, I mean I have sshd, httpd, vsftpd - do I assign it to public and open it, and everything else is closed? Again, I dont have a good idea about it, still...

Mybe Selinux started blocking something with the vsftpd, for some reason? I've read about this (I did not run it yet):

Code:
setsebool -P ftp_home_dir on

I am able to ssh, but I changed the default 22 to something else. So when I open Putty, I enter the server IP, this custom port number next to it, and then I am able to connect. If I enter any other port I get a Putty error - connection refused. This may have something to do with the vsftpd too. This is probably it, actually... Port 22 not in /etc/sshd/sshd_config

Let me check now...

Yes, this is it. I entered that custom port in Filezilla (just like I do in Putt), and it works.

Thanks!

this is how you would do it with the sftp command:
Code:
sftp -oPort=24
http://linux.die.net/man/1/sftp
