noobie tip for flash, hope its useful?
 

hi,
recently i was experiencing a flash problem consisting of a black screen for all flash items, little windows for video files like on youtube, pinkbike etc and also flash based games like bike mania.

I found the problem on fedora and ubuntu "lucid" both 32-bit, the problem is similar to some 64-bit errors i googled but alas none sovled my problem.

Some fixes said to download the tarball (instead of the repository or other install method) and place the .so file into my homes .morzilla/plugins folder however this didn't work for me, so my tip is to place the .so file under "/usr/lib/firefox/plugins" ever since my flash has work perfectly also fractionally faster,

So far i have tested this method on fedora 13 and ubuntu lucid and since recently deciding to "dive in at the deep end" slackware 13.1 with xfce (all 32-bit).

I understand this post may be pointless or a stupid suggestion but it was the first fix i've worked out by myself without google, but i hope this help any other like me to fix their flash.

Documenting your problem and solution is neither stupid nor pointless. If you've run into a problem, others are bound to do the same.

To get the latest Flash player for Firefox on my Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy system I went to Adobe's site and downloaded the file install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz. As root I untarrred it into the Mozilla plugins directory. When done I had the file /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.

I understand that the location to use may vary between Kubuntu releases, and between distros. You can find the directories you Firefox is loading plugins from by entering about:plugins into the location bar. This lists all active plugins and where they are loaded from.

You can check what version of Flash is active in your any web browser by going to the About Flash page on Adobe's website.

Hope that may help someone else who is having problems with Adobe Flash player.

Google Chrome comes with flash already installed:
/opt/google/chrome/libgcflashplayer.so


Never had to download flash from Adobe.

Works in Firefox, Iceweasel, Opera 10.60, uzbl, Midori
