Noob trying to learn. Please help
Hello all,
I am a fairly fresh noob when it comes to Linux. I have installed Centos and ubuntu from distribution before and played with both, but I want a more in depth knowledge of linux. One thing I want to do is install a Linux OS from scratch, ie: not from distribution. And was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. Also, I want to learn more about Bash scripting and PHP as well. If anyone can point me in the direction as where to look to be able to do this. Lastly, using Fedora as a file server accessible by Windows clients. If someone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. But if there is any other recommended reading you can advise please do. Thank you in advance for your help. P |
You'd virtually answered your own question already - http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/

Ok thanks. Is there any other pages that might be worth me reading? Especially regarding PHP/Bash scripts, setting up a file server with Linux and monitoring traffic through a linux firewall?

well windows file servers would be made using SaMBa, PHP is learnt from a book about PHP, bash has some great howtos at tldp.org. Monitoring traffic is a very vague term, and means a huge range of different things to different people, iptables knowledge is always useful though.

For bash scripts
http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz http://tldp.org/LDP/Bash-Beginners-G...tml/index.html http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/ For PHP, I'd probably start with http://www.php.net/manual/en/. Note that the docco has examples for just about every cmd, sometimes several. |
