Noob question
erm, how and where do we check our ip address and protocols, and those other network configs??
im using redhat 9, GUI = kde. sorry, but im :newbie:  |
you can use linuxconf as superuser
|
bash: linuxconf: command not found.
this is wat i get. do i have to go to anywhere to specifically use this command or wat?? thanks for replying |
Most likely you have to "su -" to root in order to run the command. I'm not sure about RedHat, but in many distros the command "ifconfig" can also be used. (these are all within either the konsole or the terminal window, mind you)
|
normaly you can check your Network-Settings by typing "ifconfig" in a terminal
Most network-settings in RedHat are stored in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifconfig-eth0 for your first ethernet card |
yesh i tried in console and even root console, but just command not found.... sighz =(
|
i found the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifconfig-eth0
but its not ifconfig, its ifcfg blah blah. Anyway, it only shows tat im using DHCP, .... and in the other file the address shows 127.0.0.1 ........ nothing else..... |
well, there should be other ways to check it but I don't know so I suggest to install linuxconf or ifconfig rpms from the install cds, if you have them with you, or look for the rpms in the internet.
for example in www.pbone.net |
if you are looking for a setup-tool i would normaly use webmin. It is web-based and you have nearly all systemsettings in just one surface.
you should google to find it... :) |
