Noob networking question

Not sure if I should post under networking or newbie

New user, installed Mint 19 as first choice. After that came apache, php, mysql etc. Uploaded my files that I want to show on the net (basically a test file) just to check if the data is going to be visible. Data is under /home/user/html

I have created the .conf file under etc/apache2/sites-available as seen below in pastebin link:

https://pastebin.com/vbREiLSP

However the page is not showing up. Response I usually get is "Forbidden: unable to access...."

Via freenom, I was able to get a free DNS name and point it towards IP address.

Any thoughts maybe on what Im doing wrong? Would appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks in advance for the responses and understanding.

Kindest regards,

Kind of a lot going on here to guess.

Ports would have to be open to begin with.

Generally I'd suggest that you test on a local lan ip as opposed to trying the internet.

Some ISP's will block home http servers.

The web server is running, yes?

Your free DNS name is linuxlewis.tk ?

You say that the data is under /home/user/html/ ...but your DocumentRoot for the VirtualHost is
/home/slapythonc/linuxlewis.tk/ -- which is NOT under /home/slapythonc/html -- ??

What is the default document root <Directory> for the server?

Agree with jefro that you should get everything working before you try to access from the 'net

Hi, sorry, my bad, you are right, the data is under /home/slapythonc/linuxlewis.tk/

Port should be open, if we are talking about standard port 80 / HTTP, then yes, should be done. Thing is, Im always logged on and online, I cant differ if the content I see under http://www.linuxlewis.tk is the stuff thats actually online live and visible or am I reading it from some form of cache memory

DocumentRoot /home/slapythonc/linuxlewis.tk/ --- picked this up from some other website with detailed explanation of what is what. Server aint really a server, just my laptop acting as a server

I tried it over the phone and was able to see the content (basically "Coming soon" message). Then again, a mate of mine who is abroad, tried it via his ISP and always gets the "Forbidden... " message.

Thanks a lot for responding btw, any feedback is great feedback.

In addition, I am not familiar with freenom but it does not look like you configured the dynamic IP client correctly.
Quote:
nslookup www.linuxlewis.tk
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.linuxlewis.tk
Address: 192.168.0.100
The IP address should resolve to your public IP address and not the LAN address. You also need to configure your router to forward port 80 to the computers IP address i.e I assume 192.168.0.100. Do not worry, a private IP address does not contain any personal identifiable information.
