noob needs help- kinja platform not working on browser
Hello!
I've just inherited my boyfriend's old laptop which has Ubuntu 10.04 LT- "the Lucid Lynx" on it after my last laptop succumbed to a horribly tricky remote access virus. I've only ever really used Microsoft before and feel very much like I'm grappling in the dark trying to figure this stuff out, but I'm excited to begin! My bf doesn't seem to know much about it either since he's got a big ass stationary Mac. Anyway, the preamble was to forgive my newb-ness, google searches have yielded no links to discussions of the same problem. The Issue: I am having trouble accessing a few websites; namely those that use the Kinja platform (Gawker, Jezebel, Lifehacker etc...). I just managed to download and install Chromium (was very proud of myself) but every time I try to load the page it gets the "AW SNAP" screen after about a second. Then I try it on Firefox, and its able to load the main text but I can't sign in to my account or reply or anything or even see the discussion responses. Which is no fun. It's probably a simple solution but I have really no idea where to begin fixing this and its an issue for me cause I love accessing those sites, and using chrome! Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! PS: I will be away from the comp for a few hours, but will be back to provide any additional information! Just figured I would get it out there before I have to leave. Thanks! |
Ubuntu 10.04 EOL
Just in Case you or your BF did not know. So installing anything is going to be a pain to do. You might consider moving up to version 14.04LTS which is the most recent http://www.howtoforge.com/xubuntu-de...-tahr-tutorial Lighter ubuntu version below http://desktoplinuxreviews.com/lubun...ntu-14-04-lts/ This might help the aw snap issue maybe in 10.04, or, maybe not. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1467637x OOps, forgot my manners. Howdy and Welcome from a Linux Scooter Tramp. |
That first link you posted doesn't work / lead to anything on either of my browsers, but I'll give the other things a shot and if its still a pain I'll install another version. Thanks a lot!

http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/05/10/...on-may-9-2013/ That was what the first link should have led yout to. It is just to point out that 10.04LTS Ubuntu package manager is not supported anymore so no new libraries will be installed from here on out. Translation for a NEWBY. You are going to run into install problems with the latest download application installers off the web because your libraries you have are too old to either install or run said application. You will experience less grief installing and running a newer supported Linux version was my suggestion. Installing a New Operating systerm is not as Hard as you may think it is and you will have learned something new like a new language (which might make your BF a bit nervous) and that knowledge is yours and yours alone. Nobody can take that from You. I posted previously a Link on step by step Xubuntu 14.04 install. If lacking a DVD drive and computer is too old to run a DVD. Only boot off of CD. I would suggest what I run http://forum.mepiscommunity.org/view...342837#p342837 Screenshot of it now It fits on a cd and runs good on older and newer gear. Install video below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X90j9iaavLQ http://mepiscommunity.org/videos/mx14 Have fun and Happy Trails, Rok |
I forgot to mention. You can also Upgrade your Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 also (12.04 is supported till 2007)
