non smp kernel

I need a non/smp kernel. Running slack v8 with 2.4.5
kernel now. Trying to recompile to get modem working.
I installed with bare.i boot and color.gz root disc.
How to tell if kernel has smp support or not before
installation? Any way to remove smp support without reinstalling?
All help much appreciated.
Thanks Chester

I don't follow... To remove SMP support if it is there you recompile your kernel, but you say you've already done this so you should know if the support is present!!! I don't think the standard Slackware kernels have SMP support as it isn't necessary to get the system installed sufficiently to then be able to recompile with SMP support.

What have I missed?

cheers

"To remove SMP support if it is there you recompile your kernel,"

Sorry for not being more specific. Instructions I have
aren't too specific either.
What I am trying to do is recompile kernel and install
drivers to support my modem.(winmodem) The instructions said I needed a kernel without "smp"
support. I didn't know the difference until I started to
recompile and got smp errors. Since I couldn't find
specific help I figured I better regroup and get a better
perspective.
Apparently slack kernels do have smp support even
with the bare.i.
Anyway you have answered my question and again
I appreciate it. Saved me countless time and effort.
Chester
