No wireless networks appear

I currently have a HP Pavillion dv-6 and when I go into networks no wireless networks show up even though I know there are wireless networks in the area that I have previously used o a different computer.

Is your wireless radio enabled on the laptop? Which distro are you using?

RE: Distro

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 and the radio button will not allow me to turn it on unless I turn on the blue-tooth and then it only lets you use the laptop's blue tooth

You need the driver package (STA) for the broadcom wireless. I guess you might need module assistant and your kernel headers to build it. It is in the debian repository, so I guess it is available in Ubuntu as well. It will create a kernel module wl.ko

I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem/query.

You will notice that your post

#5 was edited & the output was placed within the vbcode tag #. This will make your posts cleaner therefore easier to read. You as the poster have these vbcode tags # and Quote available to use. Look at the reply windows menu icons # & to the left of # the balloon Quote.

Missing your Wireless Drivers? may help to get a quick fix for now. You should get the correct driver & firmware for Broadcom Corporation BCM43225.

Just a few links to aid you to gaining some understanding. Sure some may seem beyond a newbie but you must start somewhere;
