I have installed Linux Mint 17.1 Qiana Cinnamon on to a Compaq Presario R3000 and cannot use the wireless connection. I am totally lost. I can get the wired connection, but the wireless is not there. I have tried to establish the connection, but I do not understand the lingo like BSSID of my router. I have entered the MAC address but do not know how to clone it. Help!
The first step is to learn what wireless chipset you have.
Run the command
Code:
lspci
in a terminal. A portion of the output should identify the wireless chipset. Post that bit here, being sure to surround the output with "code" tags, which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the "Quick Reply" window.
I wish that I could code lspci but everything was erased from the computer when I downloaded Mint. The program downloaded now it will not boot from the hard drive. Getting Modem Manager [1237] Caught signal, shutting down and Modem Manager [1237] Could not acquire the 'org.freedesktop. modemManager1'service name. I am beginning to believe that this program will not work on my machine.
Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)
I think this is it!

Reason: Change in status
This post should help you get started with Broadcom.
You may not have to read it. If you open the Mint control center, there should be an item called "Additional Drivers" or "Proprietary Drivers" or some similar name. Open that; I believe it should find and install the Broadcom drivers.
