You need to turn on OSS emulation. Flash doesn't support ALSA.

How do I turn oss on, right now my kmix is all on and not muted but I can not get any sound from youtube
Does that mean I have to recompile my kernel?

Youtube is currently broken for Linux users.

Delete your ~/.macromedia directory to get sound back... but don't touch the broken volume slider or sound will go away again.
