No Video with Mint Gloria on Acer 5000

I have an Acer Aspire 5000. I tried to run Mint Gloria from a CD that installed the system just fine on a desktop so I think that the CD is good but on the Acer it starts to go OK, I get the logo and the tone but then the monitor goes blank. No Video! It seems like it goes on booting from the CD activity but video never comes back. I am a new newbie to Linux and think it rules on my desktop but I need help with the Laptop. Also if I can get it loaded OK I will need a wireless driver too. Any ideas?

Looks like a graphics driver issue. Do you have the option to bootup in vesa mode?

Thanks for reply. It will boot from CD in "Compatibility Mode" I don't know this is the same thing as VESA. Monitor seems in VGA mode and only choice is 800X600 or 640X800. I'm sure you are right about it being a "driver" issue but I haven't got wireless working yet. I will move some things around and get to my router with hard wire. Sorry to sound like a noop.
