No trashcan icon in gnome

I don't have any trashcan icon on my desktop, it wasn't even there wen i just had installed the system, im wery newbie on linux so i haven't learned the system yet, so is there any other way to reach the trashcan?

Fire up gconf-editor (Welcome to the linux version of the registry, except for only gnome programs use it :-)).
Look in apps/nautilus/desktop
Make sure the trash can is checked.
