no terminal
I hope this is accepteable here. I just got Ubuntu.9.10 working about three days ago. I need to use a terminal to update flash terminal but the terminal keep coming up white and can't do anything. There is no prompt or and nothing appears when I type anything. That means I can't even quit. I have to close the window from the task bar.

There should be a key combination, I think it's Ctrl shift or alt ctrl and then an F button like F3 I believe will put up a terminal on the full screen. I think F6 should bring it back to the GUI but I generally don't use Ubuntu so my memory could be bad on this issue. If this terminal doesn't work then it does sound very strange.

Nothing. The context does a few things like changing it's size. Aside from that nothing. I will wait some time for other replies then consider re-installing. I do have some junk in the boot menu I would like to get rid of. There must be a way to blank the menu and re- install fresh. Maybe something happened during install.
There is another thing that might indicate a glitch. There are strange squares at different times on the screen that look like you are seeing through to another screen. They do dissapear after a time so the screen is usefull but a little inconvenient with those squares. They are about one half inch size.
The presence of the squares and the terminal may say a re-install is in order. I have no data to speak of on the disk so far. The spell check reminded me of some other things. Sometimes part of the screen is missing like the bottom line saying post quick reply. Also there are no resize and such in the upper right, and you can't usually drag and drop a small screen in a different place.

My humble applegees:>) ctrl alt f3 does indeed bring up a terminal. I think what happened was I tried ctrl alt f and f3 by itself but not ctrl alt f3.
The other things I want to look into myself but they still persist.

It's no problem, I wasn't exactly very clear as I rushed that response through before getting ready for a shift at work.

Glad to hear at least that work then.
