no sound with xmms

Distro - Debian
Kernel - 2.6.8.1
XMMS - 1.2.10

Installed using apt-get form testing
I can get no sound and I have no clue why
I am using the ALSA output module, and I get this message,

Please Check That
Your Soundcard is Configured Properly
You have the correct output selected
No other program is blocking your soundcard

I get the same error message with different output modes selected and different configurations. Thanks!

Check which sound server you are using. Because, I feel debain uses ESD sound server. If you can change the output plugin to ESD then may be you would get to hear music

sh4d0w13,
Are you using ALSA for sound? (or are you running Gnome and ESD?). If running ALSA, do you have the OSS compatability module loaded for ALSA?
