I'm really new to Linux and can't get sound to work. I have Ensoniq 1371 built into the motherboard. RH8 detects that and also the es1371 driver. I installed sound configuration and tried to manually configure it, but that didn't get any sound to work either. I ran lsmod and it's the only sound module listed. It looks like it is configured right in modules.conf (alias sound-slot-0 es1371). Does anyone have any ideas for me to try?
I know this may sound daft, but have you checked your software volume control levels?
That had me stumped for 2 days! I just ran 'kmix' and it showed that all my levels were muted!
Apparently RH8 sets all volumes to min as a default!
Your idea isn't daft. I was told to check that before. I checked the volume controls and they are loud and not muted. I've been working on this for a couple weeks and am now totally stumped. I've been through dmesg, var/log/messages, and different configuration files. I also have Windows on this computer and sound works there, so I know the sound system works. Any other ideas on what to look at?
