No sound when playing PPS movies

When PPS movies are played, I can't hear any sound. What must I do to correct this problem? I am using Ubuntu 11.04 on a netbook.

Can you hear other sounds?

What application are you using to play the PPS movie? Also, what is a PPS movie?

Can you post the output of

Code:
$ file the_movie_you_are_trying_to_player

not 100% sure what you need to do, But you may need to have specific files or plugins that you may not, I know you can open most pps files in openoffice ... I dunno about a PPS movie though.

Try using Synaptic to make sure you have all Lib files and/or Gstreamer files you need (google will let you know what those are).

Also are you using a specific PPS viewer or are you using TOTEM to view it? ... I do know that Totem has a plugin to work PPS.

Last thing I can think of is a problem I had. I was using my Zsnes emulator, and it had no sound. I simply opened terminal, put in ZSNES (to run) and added -ad sdl (to initiate sound), so maybe you could do:

Code:
name@computer:$[ppsviewer] -ad sdl
These are all just shots in the dark though, but I hope you get some info from it. Good luck.

PPS is a PowerPoint Slide. It is a file format that windows uses, and most time can be opened using OpenOffice. I myself recently watched a slide show my cousin put together for a family event, But I think PPS movie may be a file created using Windows Moviemaker ... or maybe some coversion of another movie type. As far as my knowledge goes, OpenOffice and Totem are both acceptable PPS programs.

That would be my best guess, yes, but experience has taught me that when people write unclear things like the OP has, what they actually mean could turn out to be something you would never have guessed from what they've written.

If you have a PowerPoint Slideshow, it's much better to say that rather than 'PPS' which people could easily misinterpret.

It's amazing what a few extra words, or even letters can do. Especially on the internet where we can't really get the context,undertone,expressions, or hand movements that help us distinguish what the heck people are talking about in everyday life.
