No sound Red Hat 9

I put RedHat9 on a Sony Vaio in addition to XP. The sound does not work in Linux. Does anyone know why or could point me in the direction of some useful info'?

I think I have to install a new kernal to make the sound work. I don't even know what a kernal is. Linux is too hard man. I just want to listen to the new Neptunes cd on my lap top. I'm just venting sorry. Thanks for the info though.

I use RH9

Goto the menu > system tools > then hardware browser then you should see your sound card.
or go to the menu > system settings > sound card detection.
