No sound on Umbuntu 5.04


I tried to play a relaxing cd to help me sort out my new installation of a tv card. Theres no sound, can someone help me, I shall post any required info

Do you have a mixer installed (i.e. alsamixer)?

Just for kicks, what is your sound card? Usually the output of lspci and modprobe -l

its a built in one.
The motherboard is a pc chips fsb400
