no sound on ubuntu 12.04

hi. i am running a i7 quad with 6 gigs of ram. how do i find the place to put my question. i have no sound on my dual boot 12.04 64 bit ubuntu side. the win7 side has good sound. how do i go about installing sound i do not know how to select a program and install it. then use it too?

Post no sound

i am not sure i am posting right. i am a total newbie. i have no sound on my ubuntu12.04 side of my dual boot of win i7. not sure how to find out what sound card i have. it may be on my asus motherboard. next i do not know how to make it active after i install a program.
